At Oakey’s Pet Funeral Home & Crematory, we know how special your pets are to you and your family. The Oakey’s Family is passionate about their own pets and understand the “human-companion animal bond.” Thus, we wanted to provide pet parents like you, an opportunity to ease the pain of saying goodbye to a very special part of your life, someone who has provided friendship, unconditional love and memories to last a lifetime.  Our goal is to treat your pet the way we would treat any family member we serve – with respect and dignity – and with the level of care that families have come to expect from Oakey’s.

8 am – 12:00 Noon Saturdays

12:00 Noon-5 pm Sunday

Dedicated Staff

Samuel Goode Oakey, III represents the fifth generation of the Oakey family in the funeral profession and has been President of Oakey’s Funeral Service since 1998. An animal advocate for as long as he can remember, Sammy is passionate about his two dogs, Samantha and Oreo, and his cat Tigger. Sammy serves on the Board for The League for Animal Protection and is very active in the community. He is a member of the Rotary Club of Roanoke, Business Men's Club, Lakeland Lodge #190, AF&AM, Roanoke Scottish Rite Bodies, and the Kazim Shrine Temple. Sammy and his wife, Mitzi, have one son, Sam, IV. 

Michelle Shook, Manager of Oakey’s Pet Funeral Home & Crematory, has been a member of the Oakey’s Funeral Service staff since 1994 and has been involved in every aspect of funeral service. Michelle understands the Oakey’s tradition of care for the families we serve and wishes to carry this expectation to our facility focused on pets. Michelle loves animals and has waited patiently for the day she could be a part of Oakey’s Pet Funeral Home and Crematory. Michelle, shown here with her dog Norman, is available to serve you and is happy to answer questions or help in any way. Michelle, her husband William and two children, Emily and Elizabeth, live in Check, Virginia with their menagerie of animals.

Code of Ethics and Licensing

Oakey’s is a member of The International Association of Pet Cemeteries and Crematories. This organization establishes the highest business and ethical standards we at Oakey’s desire to maintain. It is our goal to provide comfort and support to our pet parents. Our facility was constructed specifically for the cremation and care of pets and is separate from our other chapels. All of the pet cremations are performed on site in our facility and you can be assured that the cremated remains you receive are those of your pet. A certificate of cremation is provided with each cremation.

Oakey’s Pet Funeral Home & Crematory is located in the Northeast quadrant of the City of Roanoke at 5416 Airport Road.  Just 6 minutes from I-581/220 at the Peters Creek Road Exit and 10 minutes from Interstate 81, the facility is convenient to all areas of the Roanoke region.
